Meet Rukia, a young, unemployed mother who lives steps away from Sawa World’s new Solution Centre in Kampala.  By chance Rukia recently walked past her new neighbor, popped in for an impromptu visit, and left with a Solution Video in hand on Sawa World Spark Harriet’s Camp Green, a business that turns waste into organic compost.

Fast-forward to today, and Rukia is busy making her own organic fertilizer and setting up an edible garden with the help and advice of Spark and mentor Harriet.  Rukia can’t wait to attend upcoming training sessions at the Centre to help with the success and expansion of her start-up enterprise. “Sawa World has already become a solution in my life,” beamed Rukia.

High double-digit youth unemployment is a reality for Uganda, a country with one of the fastest growing and youngest populations in the world.  Rukia’s inspiring story is one of thousands on how Sawa World is working to break the cycle of poverty by empowering youth with local solutions who then move from the ranks of unemployed to employed.
